Orson "Oscar" D. Duncan

1865-1958

Orson D. Duncan was born 27 Nov 1865 in Jefferson County, Madison Township, Indiana. He was the son of David S. Duncan and Susanna Dunham 1835-1924. Orson's parents moved to Madisonville, Ohio near Cincinnati about 1866 or 1867. Some time between 1900 and 1910 Orson changed his name to Oscar. Oscar Duncan married Anna Elizabeth Walters 1869-1956 on 4 May 1886. Anna was the daughter of Isaac Walters 1837-1904 and Christina Elisabeth Gordon 1845-1924. Oscar and Anna lived their entire married lives in the Cincinnati, Ohio vicinity. Oscar was a stone mason contractor by trade. Oscar and Anna had 4 children, Wilber 1888-1964, Mabel Julia 1890-1970, Edward John 1893-1961 and Addie Marie 1896-1987. Oscar's wife Anna Elisabeth Walters died in Sep 1956 in Cincinnati. After the death of his wife, Oscar's health was failing so he went to live with his daughter Mabel Julia and her husband Herbert B. Kohus Sr. 1886-1969 in Mt. Repose, near Milford, Ohio, about 25 miles east of Cincinnati. Oscar Duncan was my great grandfather. When I was a child I remember going to see him at my grandparents house. We would pass the time playing Chinese Checkers. I was about nine years old at the time and remember how we both loved the game. My memories of him are faded over time but I do remember him as a kindly old gentleman who I enjoyed being around. Oscar Duncan died on 25 Feb 1958 in Milford, Ohio. he and Elizabeth are buried in Laurel Cemetery,  Madisonville, Hamilton County, Ohio.
