Michael Clouse
1841-1909
|
|
Michael Clouse was born in Van Wert
County, Liberty Township, Ohio, on 10 Mar 1841. He was the son of
George Clouse
1816-1859 and
Elizabeth Kesler
1816-1884. The Clouse family was one of the earliest settlers in Van Wert
County. Michael's brother Jacob
was the first born white child in the county previously inhabited only by native
Americans. Michael married Mary Clouse 1844-1928, his first cousin, on 28 Oct 1862
in Ashland County, Ohio.
Mary's parents were Simon Clouse
1815-1899 and Sarah Elizabeth Newcomer
1820-1884. Michael and
Mary's fathers, George Clouse and Simon Clouse were brothers. Michael was a farmer like his
father before him, and apparently a very successful one judging by the historical
account below.
Michael served in the Union Army during the Civil War, serving from Oct
1864 to Apr 1865. He lost a finger during
the war, and as you can see from the photo below, he keeps it hidden from the
camera. Michael Clouse died on 6 May 1909 in
Ohio City, Van Wert County. He is buried in Ohio City in Woodlawn Cemetery. More about
Michael can be found under Mihm Pedegree Chart on the
homepage.
