
Michael O. Brouse Sr. was born 5 Apr 1755 in
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Michael married Rachael Duck 1755-1859.
Michael was a veteran of the American Revolutionary War, serving in the
Pennsylvania Troops. See

Michael Brouse died on 6 Nov 1851. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery,
Medina County, Ohio.
In response to inquiry to Library of Congress
concerning pension records of Michael O. Brouse. Military #S3054, Pa. Line. He
applied for military retirement on Jan.25, 1833 in Wayne City, Ohio at age 78.
He lived in Lancaster Pa. until 8 years after the Revolutionary War, then
Cumberland City Pa. for 5 - 6 years, then to Chambersburg Pa. for 9 years, then
to Columbiana City Ohio, for 2 years then to Stark City Ohio for 5 - 6 years,
then to Wayne City Ohio. On April 6, 1839, he was living at Liberty Township,
Montgomery City Ohio, with a son.

On March 18, 1818, the first service
pension act was passed, which provided that every resident of the U. S. who had
served in the Revolutionary war until its close or for the term of 9 months or
longer, at any period of the war, on the Continental establishment or navy, and
who was by reason of his reduced circumstances in need of assistance, should
receive a pension. Claimants were required to give up invalid and all other
pensions. So many frauds were perpetrated under this act that in 1820 Congress
required sworn schedules of property and income from all pensioners under the
act, and under this ruling thousands of names were stricken from the rolls. This
