Loretta Kohus was born in 1902, the daughter of John William Kohus 1880-1917 and Mary W. Schaefer 1882-1959. Loretta's father was the owner of John Kohus' Cafe1907-1917, located at 1215 Main St. in Cincinnati, Ohio. He died in 1917 when Loretta was only 15 years old. After her father's death, her mother continued to operate a business out of the Saloon location until 1920.
About 1921 Loretta married John W. Gaffney 1898-1942, the son of John Gaffney and Mary Farrell natives of Ireland. Loretta and John Gaffney had a son on 9 Apr 1922, Donald W. Gaffney. Loretta's husband John, a truck driver for the Kroger Grocery Company, died on 4 Sep 1942. Loretta next married Ferdnand F. Helmig 1906-1977. Loretta (Kohus) Helmig died on 6 Sep 1962 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She and her husband Ferd Helmig are buried in New St. Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.
