Leander Clouse

1857-1888

Leander Clouse was born in Ashland County, Jackson Township, Ohio on 15 Feb 1857. Leander was the son of Simon Clouse 1815-1899 and Sarah Elizabeth Newcomer 1820-1884 of Pennsylvania. Leander and his parents moved to Wayne County, Ohio, about 1820 and then to Ashland County, Jackson Township, in 1852, where his father built a log cabin, cleared the land of trees and farmed. Leander had five siblings, Mary 1844-1928, Jasper 1847-1851, Louis, James Monroe 1852-1925 and Oliver 1859-1940. Leander died in Ashland County and is buried there in Rickel Cemetery. The Rickel family were neighbors and several Clouse family members are buried in the cemetery including Leander's mother and father. It is a small cemetery located in a wooded area and only visible from the road in the winter when the trees are bare. Leander's Headstone is off it's base and lying on the ground. Sadly, many of the headstones in this cemetery are knocked over or broken off and lying on the ground.
