Lavina Mihm was
born on 26 Apr 1839 in Waterloo, Seneca County, New York. She was the daughter
of Valentine Mihm
1799-1861 and Rachel Holben
1796-1892. Lavina married Andrew Mitchell King
1834-1918 on 30 Dec 1856 in Van Wert County, Ohio
(#2385). Andrew was the son of Josias King 1809-1846 and
Elizabeth Dague 1813-1878. They lived in Mercer County, Blackcreek Township, Ohio.
Andrew's brother Amasa King
1832-1870 married Lavina's sister
Catherine Mihm 1835-1918. Andrew King died on 4
Aug 1918
(#2053). The date of birth on Andrews headstone
reads 1836. I use the date 1834 which appears on his death certificate though
it does look smudged like their could have been confusion at the time that
information was given. The
information was given by his daughter Mary (King) Mottinger. Each census record
I have him on gives a different birth year. I'm not 100% sure which is correct,
use your discretion. Lavina (Mihm) King died on 24 Jan 1922
(#2056). I calculated her birth year
mathematically using the death date on her death certificate minus the time she
lived 83 yr- 1 mo- 27 days.
OBITUARY: Mrs. Lovina King, nee, Mihm, was
born in the state of New York, May 27, 1839, aged 83 years and 27 days. She came
to this community with her parents, when but a girl. She was united in marriage
to Andrew M. King, December 28, 1856. To this union were born ten children, nine
sons and one daughter; James, Amos, Ottos, Orlando and Charles having preceded
her in death. She has lived in this community practically all her life. She was
converted when but a girl, but never united with any church, yet she attended
the United Brethren Churches at the Ridge and at Rockford. During her illness
she called for the pastor, who prayed with her, baptizing her, and receiving her
testimony that she had found Jesus the Savior, precious to her soul. In life she
was a loving wife and mother, a good neighbor, loved and respected by all who
knew her. She suffered a paralytic stroke affecting her left side, about nine
weeks ago, which finally resulted in her death. As she answers the final
summons, she leaves behind to mourn: four sons and one daughter, namely Wallis
of Syracuse, Indiana, Mary Mottinger, William, Oliver and Naaman King, all of
Rockford, Ohio. Eighteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, besides
many other relatives and friends. (Rockford Ohio Press-1922)
