Julia E. Elbrey

Julia E. Elbrey was born 23 June 1860 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, the daughter of John and Mary Elbrey. Her father was a German immigrant from Hanover and mother was born in Ohio. She had at least 3 siblings, Mary, Elisabeth and Amelia. Julia Elbrey married Louis Kohus 1858-1907 on 4 May 1879 in Cincinnati. The burning of the Cincinnati Court House during the riots in 1884 destroyed the original marriage record. Residents were later asked to appear before the court to have their records restored (#234). Louis and Julia had 4 children, John William 1880-1917, Veronica 1881-1883, Herbert Bernard 1886-1969 and Alma Catharine 1890-1981. Julia Elbrey's husband Louis Kohus died on 9 Dec 1907. At the time of Louis's death he and Julia were proprietors of a boarding house in Addyston, Hamilton County, Ohio, just a few miles west of Cincinnati, along the Ohio River. She lost her son John William on 28 May 1917 from tuberculosis. Some time after the death of her husband Louis, Julia went to live with her daughter Alma and husband Pete Buckley, a Cincinnati Fireman by trade. Alma (Kohus) Buckley lost her first husband Peter Frances Buckley 1884-1920 in an accident. Pete was killed when a wall fell on him while fighting a fire at the Newton Tea and Spice Company in Cincinnati. Julia's daughter Alma next married Clarence Henry Dreyfus abt.1885-1939. Clarence was a salesman by trade. Some time between 1920 and 1930 Alma and her family, along with mother Julia (Elbrey) Kohus, relocated to Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. Clarence Henry Dreyfus died there on 31 Aug 1939. Julia E. (Elbrey) Kohus died on 16 Aug 1945 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia (#1203). She is buried there in Westside Cemetery, section 25, lot 296. Julia's daughter Alma (Kohus) (Buckley) Dreyfus died on 7 Sep 1981 in Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.
