Jacob Bonewitz

* 1786-1868

Jacob Bonewitz was born 6 May 1786 in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Jacob Bonewitz 1761-1818 and Maria Eva Rosanna Specht 1749-1822. See "A Portrait and biographical record of Allen and Van Wert Counties, Ohio," A. W. Bowen & Co. (p-60) & (p-61). Jacob amrried Catharine Franks 1802-1995 daughter of Jacob Franks and Sarah Livingood in 1820. Jacob Bonewitz and Catharine Franks Bonewitz relocated from Pennsylvania to Wayne County, East Union Township, Ohio in 1833. Jacob was a farmer by trade. Catharine and Jacob raised at least eight children I can name: Davis R., Julia G, Martin Vanburen, Elizabeth Ann, Martha, Joseph A, (Dow ? spelling) and Sarah J. Jacob Bonewitz died 11 May 1868 in Wayne County. Catharine (Franks) Bonewitz died in Wayne County in 1885. They are both buried in East Union Cemetery, Honeytown, Wayne County, Ohio.

*Jacobs birth year on the 1850 (60 years- born about 1790) & 1860 census (73 years- born about 1787). Though the date in the previously mentioned "A Portrait and biographical record of Allen and Van Wert Counties, Ohio," states 5 May 1787 as his birth date and census taken in June 1860 points to the year 1787,  I herein use the birth and death dates from his grave marker.
