Florence Kohus

1884-1972

Florence Kohus was born in Oct 1884 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, the daughter of Joann Heinrich Kohues(Kohus) 1838-1913. Joann Heinrich went by the name Henry Kohus after immigration to the United States. Her mother was Anna Gertrud Fromme 1844-1909. Both her parents were from Ostbevern, Westphalia, Prussia. Her father Henry, a merchant tailor by trade, was one of three Kohues (Kohus) brothers to immigrate to Cincinnati, Ohio from Ostbevern in the mid 19th century. Florence married George Charles Kuhlmann 1880-1950 on 29 Jan 1908 in Cincinnati. George was a salesman of household goods such as stoves and ranges. They had at least one child who was named Florence. All records I have seen indicate that Florence Kohus has an incorrect birth date on her headstone (see marriage record (#449) and 1900 US Census (#1142) 1910 Census (#1020) 1920 Census (#1023) 1930 Census (#1122)). I believe her headstone should read 1884-1972. Florence died on 27 Feb 1972 in Norwood, She is buried in the Kohus family section (#174) of Calvary Cemetery, Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.
