Anna Mariah Bonewitz
1784-1872
|
|

Anna Mariah Bonewitz was born in Berks County,
Pennsylvania, on 08 Nov 1784. Anna was the daughter of
Jacob Bonewitz
1761-1818 of Heidelberg, Berks County, Pennsylvania and
Maria Eva Rosanna Specht
1749-1822 also of Berks County. Anna Mariah married
Michael Clouse
1789-1867,
an immigrant from Alsace, Germany. Together they had at least 8 children. On her
death record from Wayne County, Ohio, Probate, it says her occupation
was a weaver. Anna died on 18 Jul 1872 and is buried in Rickel Cemetery, Ashland County, Ohio, along with
her husband and at least 5 of their children: Sarah 1812-1882, Simon 1815-1899, Michael
1823-1856, Jacob 1825-1854 and
Mary 1827-1905. Rickle is a small cemetery located among the trees on an
Amish farm. Death record Wayne County, Ohio

Headstones of Anna Mariah Bonewitz, and husband
Michael Clouse.
The small stone leaning against Anna's belongs to her grandson, Jasper Clouse 1847-1851. I have not yet had the opportunity to visit Rickel Cemetery but was informed by the photographer
who took these photos that Rickel is a small cemetery in a rather hard to find
location off a county road near an Amish Farm, in Ashland County, Ohio. As can
be seen by the photographs, the cemetery is in an alarming state of disrepair.
Grandfather Michael Clouse's headstone is off it's base and lying on the ground,
as are others, while grandmother Anna's headstone is leaning and ready to fall.
I fear that in relatively short time many of the headstones in this cemetery may
disappear.
