Opal Noveal Haney was born 9
Feb 1917 in Rowan County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of
William M.
Haney 1886-1929 and
Eugenia E. Hargis 1894-1975. Opal Noveal Haney
married Harold Clayton Crosthwaite 1914-1987. School teachers by trade,
her and her husband founded the Harold and Noveal Crosthwaite Scholarship fund
at Morehead University. To be eligibility, recipients needed to be full-time
undergraduate students majoring in the industrial arts with preference given to
students from East Kentucky. Recipients must have had a GPA of at least 3.0. The
award was $1000. I am not aware if the scholarship fund is still in existence.
Noveal and Harold lived most of their lives in Tennessee. William died on 13 Apr
1929 in Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. Opal Noveal lived her
latter years in Milford, Clermont County, Ohio. She died on 8 May 2008 in
Clermont County. They are both buried in Green Acres Memorial Gardens,
Crossville, Cumberland County, Tennessee. |
