James Henry Hargis

*1835-1912

James H. Hargis was born in Pike County, Kentucky about 1835, the son of John Louis Hargis 1802-1886 and Elizabeth Weddington 1805-1943. Their family later moved to Breathitt County and then to Rowan County, Kentucky. Rowan county is where James married his wife Amanda H. McGleasson *1840-1912 from Bath County, Kentucky. They were married 30 Dec 1856 (#497). James Hargis died on 30 Jan 1912 (#259). He was originally buried in the Hargis Cemetery on Craney Road in Rowan County but his grave was later moved to Alfrey Cemetery during the construction of Cave Run Lake. Several cemeteries in the vicinity were moved by the Army Corps of Engineers at that time, about 1970.
