Revolutionary soldiers buried in Ohio, Michael Brouse (#1031) -(#1031a)

Michael applied for military retirement on Jan.25, 1833 in Wayne City, Ohio at age 78. He lived in Lancaster Pa. until 8 years after the Revolutionary War, then Cumberland City Pa. for 5 - 6 years, then to Chambersburg Pa. for 9 years, then to Columbiana City Ohio, for 2 years then to Stark City Ohio for 5 - 6 years, then to Wayne City Ohio. On April 6, 1839, he was living at Liberty Township, Montgomery City Ohio, with a son. (#136) - (#136a) (#137) (#138) -(#138-a)

On March 18, 1818, the first service pension act was passed, which provided that every resident of the U. S. who had served in the Revolutionary war until its close or for the term of 9 months or longer, at any period of the war, on the Continental establishment or navy, and who was by reason of his reduced circumstances in need of assistance, should receive a pension.  Claimants were required to give up invalid and all other pensions. So many frauds were perpetrated under this act that in 1820 Congress required sworn schedules of property and income from all pensioners under the act, and under this ruling thousands of names were stricken from the rolls. This is Michael's pension record from the US Treasury Department (#2026)
