The father of my g grandmother Elsie Ann Dull is a family mystery. Christina Shaffer is named as the mother of Elsie Ann Dull on Elsie's death certificate. In the 1870 census, Eliza Dull is living with Christina Shafer b1802. Christina is head of household in Liberty Township, Van Wert County, Ohio. Eliza and Elsie's birth years match. Christina had a daughter named Christina Shafer who would have been about 17 when Elsie was born. If the daughter was Elsie's mother, she was not enumerated with Elsie and Christina b.1802 in 1870. I believe the census taker misheard Elsie's name and spelled it Eliza. In 1860 Christina Shafer and children were living next to William Mihm and his family. This means Elsie's mother Christina must have known some of the Mihm family. Elsie's future husband was Thomas Fredrick Mihm. Since Christina Shafer b.1802 is enumerated as head of household on 1850 census and youngest daughter Hannah Shafer was born abt.1843, Christina's husband must have died (or left the family) between 1843 and 1850. Elsie Dull was born in 1853. Family stories say that Elsie Dull was born out of wedlock. No one knew who her father was. There were many Dull families living in the area during the time of her birth.
