This was the first home owned by my parents Herbert Bernard Kohus Jr. 1917-2009 and Virginia Louise (Mihm) Kohus 1921-2003. It is located at 2622 Hackberry Street in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. This was the first home my parents owned. They purchased it on May 23, 1946 for $6,000. This is where the family lived when I was born in 1947. My grandparents, Herbert Kohus Sr. and Mabel (Duncan) Kohus along with my aunt Adeline lived on the second floor. Much earlier, my great grandmother Julia (Elbrey) Kohus lived 3 houses down the street at 2617 Hackberry Street. She lived there with her daughter Alma (Kohus) Buckley, Dreyfus. We moved from here in 1953 and relocated in the suburbs on a small dead end street named Floyd Place in Mount Repose near Milford, Ohio just 25 miles East of Cincinnati. Photo taken in late 1990's. The home has been renovated since this photo was taken and looks much nicer now. This home is only a short distance from 1625 Fairfax where the family lived (rented) during WWII. |
