James Hurst

James Hurst- Came to Plymouth Colony on the second sailing of the Mayflower from Grave, Holland 15 May, 1629. p.9, Jacob Dunham (1727-1779) of Lebanon, Conn. and Mayfield, N.Y. by S.D. Moore, 1933.

James is named in the Henry Cobb family Bio. section, p.53, The Hamlin Family a Genealogy of James Hamlin of Barnstable, Massachusetts 1639-1902 By Hon. H. Franklin Anderson, 1902.

Henry Cobb was twice married ; first to Patience, daughter of James Hurst. The will of James Hurst, dated Dec. 10, probated Mar. 2, 1657, mentions his wife Gartend and his grand children John, Gershom, James, Eleazer, Hannah and Patience Cobb, and Mary Dunham. Mr. Lothrop records the death of this wife, p.17, Vol 1, A History of the Cobb Family, 1907.

The Will Of James Hurst
Plymouth Colony Wills and Inventories, p. 65 "James Hurst of Plymouth" made his will 10 December, 1657, and it was proved 2 March, 1657, "on the oathes of Leiftenant Southworth and Mr. William Bradford; " Bequests were as follows : To " wife Garteud Hurst my Dwelling house att Plymouth with all my land therunto belonging and all outhousing" for life, "and att her Decease all the abovesaid pticulares I bequeath to my Grandchild John Cobb " " my will is that my wife have and enjoy all my goods and Cattles to her profitt & benifitt (excepting such legacies as I now Despose of;" To " my Grandchild Gershom Cobb .... all my Right of land att Punckatessett" To " my grandchild John Cobb forty acres of my land att Coaksett or Cushenett and to my grandchildren James Cobb Gershom Cobb & Eliezer Cobb twenty acres apeece of my land att Coaksett or Cushenett and soe as the proportion will hold to bee after the former proportion; " To " my three Grandchildren Mary Dunham, Hannah Cobb and Patience Cobb twenty shillings apeece " " my wife bee sole exequitrice of my Estate " " my loveing frinds Mr Cushman and Gyles Rickard senir : To bee Supervissors of this my last Will"
The witnesses were Thomas Southworth and William Bradford.
[p. 66] The inventory was taken 24 December, 1657, by Thomas Southworth and William Hoskins, and was sworn to at Plymouth 2 March, 1657, by "Garteud Hurst" Real estate was mentioned as follows : " The Dwelling house and out houses meddow grounds uplands that lyes within the towne of Plymouth " £,20; " the land lying against Road Hand belonging to Plymouth" £ 1; "The share of Purchase land lying att Coaksett " £15. this will was an extraction from p.228, The Mayflower Descendant Vol 14, a quarterly magazine 1912.
