Abishai Marchant

Abishai  Marchant, 3 (John 2 John 1), b. 10 Jan. 1650-1; residence, Yarmouth, later Edgartown (1693), but returned to Yarmouth where he was living in 1714; married Mary Taylor about 1673, daughter of Richard and Ruth (Wheldon) Taylor of Yarmouth, who was born about 1650 and died 1 Feb. 1717-18. Beyond several references to him in the Court Records little is known of him and the following named are assigned as issue of this marriage:
1. Samuel," b. (1678); bur. 8 Aug. 1676.
2. Jabez, b. (1675); bur. 21 Aug. 1676.
3.  Hannah, b. (1677); living in Edgartown 1710, unmarried.
4. John, b. 1679. Ancestor of Vineyard Marchants.
5. Elizabeth, b. 1681; m. Thomas Wheldon 21 Oct. 1698.
6. Samuel, b. (1683); m. Joanna , and d. 1757 (Yarmouth) Ancestor of Cape Cod Marchants.

7. Ebenezer, b. (1685); m. Mrs. Bethiah (Day) Willett24 Dec. 1719.

Plymouth Court Records

July 1670, Abishai Marchant for being found to be in bed with Mary, the wife of Morgan Jones, was fined the sum of forty shillings to the vise of the colony. p.43, Vol.5, Records of the Colony of New Plymouth 1633-1689, printed 1857
