Mary Hardin, born in Kentucky, was the Mother of Nancy Ethel Gearhart. Her father was Allen Gearhart from Virginia. This information was supplied by Nancy's son Jack Hargis on her death certificate in 1959. The spelling of Nancy's maiden name appears as Gearhart. Nancy's son Thomas Allen Hargis also spelled his mother's maiden name, Gearhart, on his father William Norvel Hargis' death certificate in 1946. Their son Thomas Allen Hargis must have gotten his middle name from his grandfather Allen Gearhart.
